The 18th Zimriya

The 18th Zimriya international choir festival was held in Jerusalem over the span of ten days, between August 10th and August 20th 1998. The festival hosted about 30 choirs from all over the world, about a third of which were local Israeli choirs.
There was 24-hours-a-day activity in the festival: it started with the morning workshops where groups of three to four choirs worked together with a world-class conductor. After lunch, choir-to-choir concerts were held.
In the afternoon yet another workshop session was held and then the evening choir-to-choir concerts. At about 10 PM, the "blue cafeteria" and the square in front of it were opened to the crowd, where singing and dancing continued till 2 AM - concentrated fun for choir lovers.
As in previous Zimriya festivals, the event was held mostly in the Hebrew University campus on Mount Scopus, whereas the evening choir-to-choir concerts were held in the Jerusalem Convention Center.
Shahar choir took part in workshop no. 9, which was conducted by Ms. Andrea Veneracion from the Philippines, the conductor of the Philippines Madrigal Singers who also took part in the Zimriya. In the workshop we worked on two madrigals by Monteverdi and Morley as well as a Philippines folk song and a Chinese folk song.
